A glass engraving machine is not a snack dispenser. There is no spiral to oil and no coil to replace. What makes it work is a focused beam passing through lenses and mirrors and landing on the surface of a glass or acrylic blank. That surface mark is sharp only when the optics are clean and the focus is true.
Three things degrade a laser faster than anything else. Dust and smoke settle on the lens. Humidity fogs the optics in coastal or humid rooms. And heat builds up if the cooling loop is blocked, which slowly weakens the tube. None of these show up as a dramatic breakdown. Fourth, look at the last two or three engravings the machine produced. If they look sharp, you are done. If the edges look soft, you have a lens or focus problem starting, and it is cheaper to catch it now than after a weekend of bad output.
The Weekly Routine, Thirty Minutes
